A Year of Coffee, Connection and a Few Happy Tears

A Year of Coffee, Connection and a Few Happy Tears

Happy New Year!

We made it through 2025 with a few late nights, a lot of laughter, and more than a couple of excellent cups of coffee. As always, December kept us on our toes—from our cafes buzzing with holiday shoppers to the warehouse team racing to get orders out before the sleigh bells rang.

So as we dive into a brand new year, I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from the one we just wrapped up.

1. Honouring an Australian Coffee Pioneer

In early 2025, we received an honour that hit close to home. My dad, Wells Trenfield—co-founder of Jasper Coffee, lover of wild ideas and champion of doing things differently—was posthumously awarded a Legacy Award at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo.

It was a moment of pride and deep emotion for us. Merilyn, my mum and Jasper’s co-founder, delivered a heartfelt speech that left the room teary-eyed. The award was created especially for Wells, recognising the impact he had not just on the specialty coffee scene in Melbourne, but in the lives of farmers and producers around the world.

2. Juliet Takes the Crown (Again)

Our organic single origin Juliet claimed the title of Best Tasting Organic Coffee at the 2025 Royal Adelaide Coffee Show.

It’s the second year running we’ve taken home top honours, after the OAA River Blend won in 2023. It’s no small feat—the judges don’t mess around. Juliet stood out for its depth, clarity and balance. A win for organic, Fairtrade coffee and the brilliant people who bring it to life.

3. Red Dust Heelers Make Moves

What an incredible season of intense wheelchair basketball.

The Red Dust Heelers wheelchair basketball team—sponsored through every bag of the Red Dust coffee found their wheels and took things to the next level this year.

They came within a whisker of the finals in the national league, and the growth in their game has been inspiring. Beyond the court, the team continues to lead outreach programs across the country, building connection and opportunity in remote across Australia. The season is always full on, with travel each and every week as they play.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming season i 2026, it's sure to be a big one.

Buying a bag of Red Dust doesn’t just taste good—it does good.

4. A Fortnight for Fairtrade

Fairtrade Fortnight 2025 was one to remember.

Together, we brought attention to the real, tangible difference Fairtrade makes in the lives of coffee growers worldwide. To celebrate with you, we gave away a free order every single day—both online and in-store, there were some very big smiles all round! On top of all this, we had some pretty fantastic prizes, from Moccamasters to coffee subscriptions.

The energy was brilliant. And seeing so many of you getting involved reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

5. Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Hits the Headlines

Here’s one we didn’t expect.

In September, The Guardian Australia published a full taste test of 41 supermarket ground coffees—and guess what came out on top?

Our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe.

They called it the best-tasting coffee on the shelf, whether enjoyed black or with milk. We’ve always known this single origin was something special, but hearing it from an independent panel (and watching new customers discover it for themselves) made our year.

If you haven’t tried it yet, well… you’re missing out.
