Originally known as Earl & Grey Tea, this sweet blend was first crafted by Outback Jackaroo, Earl Murray. Its perfect balance in a Billy Can made it a bush legend. Marketed in 1917 by the firm of Wellesley, Mezly & Grey it became an overnight global success. Unaware of his fame, Earl Murray died a penniless swagman remembered only for this fine tea.
Based on an old Chinese recipe, Earl Grey is a fine Black Tea scented with the Oil of Bergamot distilled from a citrus fruit hybrid of Lemon and Bigarade trees. Bigarade is the French name for an ancient and very sour form of Seville Orange.
I have drunk this almost every day for the past 15 years. And I never get sick of it. No other Earl Grey, or any other tea, has ever come close.
Although more heady than Twinings this is a superior tea. The flavour is strong and quite addictive. My absolute favourite.
I'm not sure if this word can be applied to taste? Having given up entirely ever drinking supermarket packaged Earl Grey tea I thought I try Jasper's blend.
It's light, refreshing and is entirely free of the sludgy aftertaste that I associate with the commercial varieties.
At the risk of sounding old fashioned ...... it's best enjoyed fresh and drunk from a thin {fine} porcelain bowl or cup
