Why these blends and not the others?

Each Legacy Blend brings its own take on flavour, built from our distinct single origins and beans that have more than earned their place over 37 years of Melbourne coffee.

• Blend #1: The original. Sweet and gentle going in, with a long, mellow finish and a standing invitation to a second cup, which is very hard to decline. Best for: any weekday morning, especially the ones that need a friend.
• Blend #2: Creamy, malty and nutty, with milk chocolate all the way through. Add milk and, in Wells' words, it becomes 'a nutty malty milkshake'. Best for: Saturday, a long black and the weekend paper, read in its entirety, including the bits you don't care about.
• Blend #4: Rich and bold, with a fruity zing up front and a dark chocolate finish that lingers like the last guest at a dinner party. Its original tagline still stands: 'Not just another bitter disappointment.' Best for: Monday morning, when the week needs a pep talk and someone brave enough to go first.
• Blend #5: Silky, sweet, rounded and complex, made to sit beside a good meal and hold up its end of the conversation. Best for: after a long Friday night dinner, when nobody is quite ready to go home.
• Blend #6: Bold and smooth at the same time, which is a good deal harder than it sounds. Plenty of body and bite, a silky sweetness, then a chocolate finale. Best for: Wednesday, halfway through the week, when you deserve a small medal and will settle for a very good coffee.
• Blend #9: Elegant, a little mysterious and in no hurry at all. A bright, winey, gooseberry note arrives late, like a soprano saving herself for the final act. Wells called it 'perhaps my finest coffee'. Best for: a slow Sunday afternoon with nowhere to be.
• Blend #10: Rich, round and chocolatey from the first sip to the last. Wells' reasoning was simple: 'everyone loves chocolate anyway!' Some of our customers have drunk nothing else for decades and see no reason to start now. Best for: any day you'd otherwise reach for a block of chocolate. Which is most of them.
