Grown high in the Andes in far north Peru, Café Femenino coffee is owned and produced by women only, it is the gold standard in ethical excellence in peru.
Café Femenino provides direct compensation to women farmers, along with the opportunity and resources to enact positive change in their communities and on their own terms.
Women in remote and rural coffee communities face a host of challenges that keep them trapped in poverty. Many of these isolated women live in male- dominated societies and have very little financial control or decision-making power.
In 2003, 464 women farmers in northern Peru decided to change this dynamic by separating their coffee production from the men’s. In that moment, for the first time, this group of women created their own product and income. Their coffee cooperative CECANOR joined their commercial partner Organic Products Trading Company (OPTCO) to create Café Femenino—a gender-focused program to support social justice and empowerment for women coffee producers worldwide.

Why we support Café Femenino
Women in the remote and rural communities of Peru are often trapped in poverty, in male-dominated situations, and they have very little financial control or decision-making power.
The Café Femenino Foundation helps to break this cycle by putting money in the pockets of women (and only women) farmers across 67 communities in north east Peru.
Jasper Coffee and Café Femenino go a long way back...
Jasper Coffee has been working with Café Femenino since we first brought their beans into Australia in 2005.
From a humble beginning with just 34 women members, they now have over 7,000 across Latin America.
To join this cooperative and be part of the project, women must own the land, thereby owning the coffee trees and the sales of cherry can then be used to provide for their families.
They participate in all farm activities and prepare the terrain, nurseries and compost. They prepare bio fertilisers as part of the organic certification, do the harvesting, de-pulping, fermenting and drying the coffee.
Using Café Femenino Levies, the Café Femenino Foundation is now working with the women on many projects of their own choosing.
