Thai Doi Chaang
$14.50 per 250g
With aroma of roasted sesame and tastes of lime and spiced sweet dark plum... a tastebud tease from Thailand.
As part of the Royal initiative (introduced by the King) in 1983 the Akha villagers of Doi Chaang received a variety of high quality Arabica plants, along with technical cultivation support to encourage a transition from opium to coffee production and from slash and burn techniques.
This transition was not economically smooth for the community, as the plants did not initially yield a lot and the price was set by the middle man.
Some say that if it was not for the resilience of the plants (popping up repeatedly after being cut down by the farmers), coffee would not be grown in the area today.
Region : Chiang Rai Province
Altitude : 1200 – 1600 m
Process : Washed
Jasper recommends drinking Doi Chaang through an espresso machine, brewed in a plunger, or prepared as a pour over coffee. It is highly appealing as an espresso or a long black.
