•   Kelagur Heights Coffee and Tea Estate has been owned by four generations of the Mathias family. Aside from coffee, they are producers of Arecanut, Cardamom, Vanilla and Black Pepper.   As the major employer of over 400+ employees, their credo has always been people first. 
Employees and their families are provided with onsite housing, a hospital, crèches for the very young, two junior schools and a work place environment that brings out the best in each and every individual.
With all of their coffees, the emphasis for Kelagur Heights Estate has always been on sustainability.  Their organic by products are composted and applied back to the soil. Sourced naturally from the Kelagur Hills, pure spring water is harvested and sprinkled over the plants.
For Arabica they choose a specific strain of coffee; usually avoided by other planters, because this strain is prone to disease and requires extra tender care.  The fruit produces the most sought after flavour of Arabica coffee in the world.  
So why is it called honey? Well, it might have been called the much-less-appetising “mucilage processed coffee” if it weren’t for one lucky coincidence. Mucilage is extremely sweet and sticky, like honey. And while the name has nothing to do with the taste, these coffees are known for their sweet flavours.
During the Honey Process, coffee is dried with some or all of the mucilage remaining on the parchment encasing the seed. Coffee cherries are picked, sorted, depulped, and then moved to drying patios or beds for various periods of time.
Unique to this Estate is the way they store their honey processed coffee for 2 to 3 months in a seasoned hardwood dunnage box. This is much like the aging process in good wines, during which they develop full bodied flavour profiles highly sought after by coffee connoisseurs around the world.
This coffee particularly shines in an espresso.  Blackberry notes .. infused with a pleasant burnt caramel flavour lingering long after the experience is over.
