LATEST UPDATE
As a result of Fairtrade & Organic prices the community has used its extra funds to help build three primary schools in Bebo, Ragol and Bogi villages. A cereal grinding machine has been installed, so farmers are no longer paying exorbitant prices to mill their grain and they have repaired their lorry, immensely reducing coffee transport costs, leaving more income to spend on food, health and education for their family and children.

YIRGACHEFFE
Jasper Coffee in partnership with World Vision, bring you this specially roasted and prized single origin coffee.

Imported by H.A. Bennetts & Sons (3rd generation coffee brokers) this coffee is grown in the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, considered to be one of the finest coffee regions in the world and close to the birthplace of coffee.

The low price of coffee on the open market means that many coffee farmers struggle to earn a sustainable living.  As a certified Fairtrade coffee, this coffee offers growers a guaranteed above market price, directly assisting them and their families with better living conditions.

Sales from the Yirgacheffe coffee will also support World Vision’s work to improve lives around the world.  So as you enjoy it's rich, exquisite taste, you are also helping farmers and their families in Yirgacheffe and around the world.
A Double Delight indeed.

“Enjoying Jasper Fairtrade coffee is a truly easy way for Australians to help change lives”
Tim Costello, CEO World Vision

Sustainably Grown

Grown in a natural forest, rather than a plantation, this wonderful coffee is classified as Shade Grown as well as Australian Certified Organic.

Flourishing amongst other indigenous trees, papaya and mangoes, it provides a habitat for native fauna.  Indigenous acacia species are vital to the forest ecosystem because they maintain nitrogen levels in the soil, necessary for healthy plant growth for other species including the coffee.

Together Changing Lives

The people of the Yirgacheffe region have been cultivating coffee in their forests for hundreds of years and it is central to their indigenous culture.  In fact, it is the presence of Shade Grown coffee that has protected these native forests from the kind of destruction that has decimated forests in other parts of Ethiopia.

The collapse of coffee prices has meant that many farmes struggle to make a living.  World Vision is working with local Ethiopian communities to improve living conditions and assist growers with acces to the global Fairtrade coffee market.

Now the aspirations of selling their coffee to the Australian market have become a reality.  Fairtrade and Organic certification allows farmers of the Oromia Cooperative to receive a fair and guaranteed price for their coffee.

By drinking this coffee you are not only choosing to support these families, you are also preserving the natural environment in one of the last old growth indigenous forests of Ethiopia.  Protect their coffee incomes and you protect the Environment.

A Double Delight indeed.
