Hawaii Kona Fancy Coffee is highly valued in the Specialty Coffee world for its intensity of flavour. These unique flavour characteristics are directly attributed to the Guatemalan heirloom Typica plant stock and the exquisite Kona growing conditions.
High demand, particularly from American connoisseurs, coupled with small parcel production means this coffee is in very limited supply. Rarely does Kona becomes available in Australia. As with all our Special Release coffees, this is the real McCoy 100% Genuine Kona Coffee.
The Kona region itself is very strictly defined and limited to a land belt, 2 miles wide and 22 miles long wrapped around the Volcanic slope. Containing around 670 independent coffee farms, often only three to seven acres in size. Only Kona Coffee produced in this area can bear the 100% Kona Seal of Approval.
Coffee on the Lava Flow
The Koa Estate coffee is grown in very rich, rocky, volcanic soils, on slopes rising straight off the Pacific Ocean. Warm sun, and delicate, light afternoon rain combine with regular 28 degree temperatures to produce an idyllic tropical climate. In this perfect environment the coffee beans develop more slowly, producing higher sugar content and a larger size bean (Fancy Grade Size 18).
Koa Estate Quality Control
The Koa Estate plantation is located in the small town of Captain Cook, situated on the slopes of Hawaiian volcano Mauna Loa, on the Big Island Hawaii. From seed to cup, this sustainably grown, hand-picked coffee is produced under rigorous quality controls. Using a state-of-the-art wet mill facility from Colombia at Koa Estate, the entire green bean process is temperature and humidity controlled, resulting in a unique, ecologically efficient wet processing coffee system.
After a memorable flight across the incredible Tourquise Blue Pacific waters, landing on the Lava flow of the Kailu Kona Airport sets the scene for a unique experience in tropical paradise. Wells swears it’s tough when the soft tropical waters are lapping at your toes as you sip your first Kona of the day! He suggests best cupping for this gem is as a Plunger, Filter, Espresso or Long Black!
